About

Curse Breaker: Awakening is a roguelike hack-and-slash game featuring fast-paced, movement-based combat and procedurally generated levels.

You play as a young, brave knight, hailing from the kingdom of Arcanum who has lost your home and family due to a curse that befell the kingdom. Having lost everything, you entered the Moon Bastion, where the mastermind behind the curse, Morgana the Malevolent resides.

Upon entering the tower, you realized that you have fell right into Morgana's trap. You are now cursed with immortality and forced to fight endless waves of powerful monsters. Every time you fall, you would awaken at the entrance of the Moon Bastion once again with no way to leave the tower.

Just when you are about to give up, you heard the voice of different deities offering their assistance. They are willing to give you their blessings to fight back against Morgana and her minions, but their motives remain unknown.

In the tower, you will face a number of witches that follow Morgana, each with their own agenda. They guard the stairways to the upper floor, preventing you from reaching Morgana.

Your goal is simple: reach the top of the tower to confront Morgana, and unfold her malicious plot before it is too late. You are the last hope of all of Arcanum.

You are the Curse Breaker.

Features

1. Movement-based Combat: Move, jump and wall run to navigate through the levels!

2. Procedurally Generated Levels: No two runs are the same: be prepared for anything, use anything resources you can lay your hands on!

3. Sophisticated Guard-based Combat System: Attack to damage your enemies or break their guard. Guard-broken enemies can be grabbed and thrown at other enemies or into hazards! Throw props or guard broken enemies, use everything in the level to survive!

4. Challenging Boss Fights: Fight the witches guarding the portals to the upper floors, but do not forget that they are the masters of their arts...

Future of the Project

This project is my Final Year Project at Asia Pacific University. It is currently a demo / prototype / vertical slice that has all core systems in place and be expanded upon rather easily. As I am now a fresh graduate, I have to focus on putting food on my table before anything else, so the project will be receiving slower updates for the near future.

However, I am more than happy to dedicate more time on the project with proper funding, so do contact me on Discord (gamecells_goh) or leave me an email on gamecellsentertainment@gmail.com if you are willing to support the development in any way, I really do appreciate your support!

Future Additions

- Spells: A whole spell system that the player can use in battle to broaden both offensive and defensive options!

- Artifacts: Unique items that give special effects to aid the knight in his journey upwards!

- NPCs: Talk with other non-hostile individuals living in the Moon Bastion for their own reasons. Your relationship with these individuals might make your journey towards the top easier or harder...

- Shop: Purchase upgrades, artifacts and weapons to aid you in your quest to reach the top floor!

- Sin: Become an advocate of the dark god by committing various sins, and gain powers beyond your understanding that comes with a price...

- More Movement Mechanics: Vault, Grapple, Slide; use anything to your advantage!

More Levels, Enemies, Bosses and Juicy Lore!

Limitations

Currently, the game uses of a lot of external assets. Credit is given accordingly, but if you believe that there any misattribution please reach out to me.

A very small part of the game also uses AI-generated assets (intro cutscene, player avatar and sin icon).

These assets will probably be replaced should the game continues development.

If you encounter any bug or issues, feel free to leave a comment below as well.

Good start, especially for a school project.  The game could really use some more enemy and room variety, but it's still enjoyable the way it is. If you want a more thorough review/list of bugs let me know and I'd be happy to do that, but since you're halting development I don't know if that would actually be helpful.

Hi, thanks for the feedback! I will still be working on it on and off, but probably not to the extent that I will be able to push frequent updates. I'll just see how well it goes this way instead of making rash decisions.
